hooray im so happy to be here!
on the plane, the captain proudly announced that they had updated their entertainment system, then five minutes later announced somewhat crestfallenly that their entertainment system was temporarily unavailable. such is quantas. to compensate, they played some music. a cool female voice (harry potter!) said, "The spirit of quantas" leaving me a little anxious as to what kind of music was going to follow. then a lady started singing about cities she'd been to, carefully rhyming her sentences, but how ultimately she still loves australia. it was not so bad. later a choir joined in, who clearly shared her sentiments, in three part harmony. it was a little screechy at the end, but again, not so bad. then there was some country song about some girl, which was suddenly cut short. people were looking around puzzled. where had the music gone? then.. "The spirit of quantas." the whole thing started all over again. five times. you could hear a collective groan everytime the song started again. quite horrendous. the little girl sitting behind us threw up.
then we filled in the immigration forms and were reminded of how the australian government, despite their spirited aircraft music, still treats people like criminals. after ticking "NO" to about twenty questions asking if we'd been near sheep or brought "illicit narcotics" with us, i put down the form, relieved.
hooray but im so happy to be here. the jackaranda trees are all in bloom, violently purple with no leaves to speak of, creating a purple carpet underneath them. its all very dry, and so everything is producing flowers desperately (as ms tan says) so that they will not die of thirst without procreating. but the sky is astoundingly blue and clear, and there are wild parrots (!) that are constantly flying by in flocks. the crows are bigger than cats and sound like sheep. haha!
oh, yesterday i played barbies with my sister, which was surprisingly fun. she got tired of me making every character i touched a lunatic though, and after i'd shouted "NEVER! NEVER!" and kamikazeed off the cliff for the fifth time, she decided she'd rather play by herself.
i will be writing postcards soon. mel please email me your address. tq if you have delian's address can you mail it to me too? thanks.
anyway, to those whom it may concern, i have found out that my father has already registered me for uni in sydney, so let us see how easily that is reversed.
