His Life. His Work. His Passion. (This was in "things you have typed recently". The logical explanation: Michaelangelo's been using my computer.)

Vivienne: You guys should've taken the LRT with us, it was totally empty!
Claire: Yeah, I was running up and down the train waving my hands in the air and shouting!
Kanj: You were what?
Claire: Well, I figured I might as well do it while I had the chance. But Vivienne said maybe there were people on board that only we couldn't see ...
Vivienne: ... yeah, cos no one else at any of the stations wanted to get on our train ...
Claire: ... though admittedly it could have been because they saw me running up and down waving my hands in the air and shouting.
Hafiz: "Your attention, please. The next train to arrive at Platform A is for monkeys only. Thank you."

Weekly Wednesday Sleepover, 12.57am.
Claire: So are you guys going to school tmrw?
Vivienne: Ling's going all the way to school for one stupid tutorial.
Ling: [Makes happy contented sleeping sound]
Vivienne: Sorry what did I say? I meant, Ling's not going all the way to school for one stupid tutorial.

Hooray for Pokka Lemon Tea!

Mum: There were all these flying foxes flying over the boat.
Viv: Wait, I thought flying foxes don't really fly, they just glide?
Holly: No, they fly, that's why they're called flying foxes.
Me: They're a kind of bat I think.
Holly: No, they're foxes.
Viv: I thought flying foxes are squirrels?
Me: That would be flying squirrels.

Car ride back to my place
Viv: Hooray! I'm going to see Trixie again! Oh trixie trixie! She's so cute, she's just like a little angel.
Claire: A blind angel that stinks.

Today is subject registration day, the day I have to tell the NTU system what I want to study for the next half a year and which time slots so they can tell me those time slots are full and stuff me in some ridiculously cruel timetable that starts at 8.30 and ends at 7pm, with 5-hour breaks in the middle that I will spend sitting forlornly at the CS benches pretending to study.

So since I got into the office (which was at about 12noon, because this morning I committed myself to doing this fantastic thing called wasting my life ie. lying in bed until my body felt like it was starting to 2become1 with my torn bedsheets, courtesy of Smokey.) I have been watching the little blue bar on the bottom of my computer screen tick away until 1.30 (the time to register) and then on past 1.30 to 2.26, where it stands now and in 4 minutes time I will lose any chance of going back to school this semester, which is exactly what I want but which is also exactly what I have not told my father yet. It is extremely nerve-racking, throwing my carefully planned future away, but I'm sure I will find another one soon.

Project Groups

Vivienne: What's the name of the girl with the camera?
Kai: Pearly
Vivienne: Oh. So what's the name of the other girl who I thought was Pearly?

Lectures are a many-splendoured thing!

Lecturer: Okay guys I think you better settle down now
Claire: Quick, she said settle down, will you marry me?
Vivienne: What?

Lecturer: If you're running a news burrow...
Vivienne: Bureau, he meant bureau right?
Lecturer: ... chief of the news burrow ...
Claire: Rabbits unite!

Viv: You know, if he talked faster we'd end within an hour.
Claire: If he actually said something useful, we'd end in three seconds.

Well, to be be fair, he did give us the link to Theft Sensor, a free beta program for Macbooks. If you're going to the bathroom or somewhere quick, and you're worried while your friends are talking someone will nab your laptop, behold! Now there is Theft Sensor to save the day! I can use the remote control that comes with my Mac like those car key things to turn on the alarm. Then, if anyone tries to be funny by, say, closing the cover or trying to move my laptop at all, the Mac motion sensor will set off a siren.

It's the kind of siren you hear in action movies when the base is self-destructing, potentially thief-scaring stuff, however, my speakers are SO SOFT that it's really quite useless. Maybe if i'm very lucky, the person sitting next to my Mac might feel for a while that somewhere, someone very small is in distress.

Correction!

We're currently holed up in MacLab3, stuck listening to this guy who has been talking to the wall for the past 15 minutes. Really, I mean, the class is in front of him, but he's been facing the wall on the far right, and talking, and talking. He's teaching us how to use the mac os. He just said "Kawaii!" in a very disturbing cute way, and then made this ROCK-ON! gesture with his hand, as if he'd just said something extremely cool and was expecting us all to start a mosh-pit right there and then.

When we bought the hamsters, we also bought a whole range of various accessories, including this hamster bathing sand. I've had hamsters before, and it's always fun to watch them roll in this sand, although the mechanics of how this actually makes them cleaner and not just, well, sandier, escapes me. Rasputin (Ling's hamster) knows how to roll, but Penny doesn't. She dug around for a while, then pooped, then tried to get out of the container, then pooped again, and then almost as a last desperate attempt to impress me, she started EATING THE SAND.

Correction: I have been humbly corrected. I was looking through someone's playlist and saw Lea Salonga as the artist for the songs, and since she's been the singing voice for other animated features, I assumed. According to my anonymous post-er, it was Liz Callaway. Thanks!

Technicalities, technicalities.

Claire: Is every lecture going to just be him showing us these stupid slide shows of past works?
Viv: No... last week it was the other lecturerer showing us these stupid slide shows of past works.

Claire: remember that guy who bought us dinner after lindy that day?
Viv: oh yeah
Claire: i suddenly thought of him, i don't know why
Viv: maybe because you were thinking "i wish there were more nice guys in the world who'd randomly give me money"

One day I'm sure me and God will have a good laugh together about all the things I went through in life, but right now, I can't help feeling a twang of 'why me'.

Anyway, over the weekend I took Anya (Viv's hamster) and Penny back home since we weren't staying at hall. I put them together in Penny's cage, which was perhaps not such a good idea. First, Penny tried to assert her dominance by going into Anya's cup (they each have cups to sleep in). That didn't really work, because thereafter, Anya just used Penny's cup, and wouldn't let Penny anywhere near it. THEN, Anya turned the cup Penny was now using into a toilet. Oh, the things we could learn about the art of war from hamsters.
