how polite of you.

i think blogging is weird. i was reading this guys blog and thought, why are you saying all these things? things that would normally have to be carefully teased out of you by a close friend or spouse, or that you'd only say when the moment pushed you to, things that are supposed to be sacred and secret. i shouldnt be knowing these things about you, they seem so private and intimate, why would you want to share them with everyone? why did you say them at all?

obviously we write because we want someone to read. but i wouldnt want someone to get to know me better because they read my blog. what happened to good ol' fashioned companionship? nope, the letter of the day is "did you read what exhibit A said on her blog?" It kind of takes the mystery out of people. blogs are so lonely, and maybe people blog because we're fundamentally lonely. maybe we'd rather just put it online so we dont have to see the reaction it creates, in case that reaction is awkwardness.

even if you don't say anything that makes sense, or anything deep and thoughtful, i would still be sad that you chose to say it on your blog instead of telling me.
